You would have to be living under a rock not to have noticed the astronomical rise in vegan and vegetarian diners in the past few years.
In fact, according to research, about 11 per cent of Australians don’t eat meat, for environmental, health and animal welfare reasons.
The larger chains have noticed this change in views among Aussies and have quickly adapted their menus to suit (and profit from) this style of eating. Places like Hungry Jacks, Nandos, Schnitz and Grill’d now have plant-based burgers on their menus.
If you don’t want to miss out on valuable revenue from vegan and vegetarian customers, you need to ensure your menu is vegan and vegetarian friendly. This doesn’t mean you have to skimp on quality, it just means you need to be smart with your ordering.
Something many of our customers haven’t considered until it is too late, is the need for vegetarian and vegan-friendly breads. There is no point offering a vegie patty in your burger if the bun itself has animal products in it or removing cheese if the bread has milk!
